Which ist the idea behind the project?

Optimal results in environmental education can best be achieved through direct contact with nature. Therefore the main objective of the WaldMobil programs is to encourage children to observe an explore forest life. If games and fun are made use of, it is easy for children to understand even complex structures in nature. Our intension is to explain to visitors the importance of forests as biotopes of animals and plants as well as the necessity of a sustainable forestry.

A classroom in the forest?

The WaldMobil is a mini van, equipped with a small forest exhibition, books that may help to identify species, technical devices such as microscopes, binoculars and a small laboratory, games and benches and tables. The program itself is meant to be an outdoor activity, the van only being the basic station for excursions.

Where does the WaldMobil come to?

It can be called to any van accessible part of forest in Baden-Württemberg. This makes it possible to explore woods in the near surrounding of the children´s school, so that they can identify with their own forest.

Who are our target groups?

In general, all interested persons can ask for the WaldMobil. But basically the programs are dedicated to schools and nursery schools and to multipliers such as teachers and foresters.

Can the WaldMobil programs be integrated into biology lessons?

Indeed! as they are practivally based, the WaldMobil programs answer the Baden-Württemberg curriculum’s demand to educate children in a self-acting method in particular. A day in forest with the WaldMobil could function as first experience with subjects to be treated more thoroughly in succeeding class room lessons. The contents of a WaldMobil excursion may depend on the season and the individual wishes of the group, and last but not least on the weather.

What does it cost?

For didactic and pedagogical reasons we try to work with means as simple as possible, so that only a small amount of cost sharing will be asked for. No one should feel they cannot afford the forest experience we offer. For the time being the project is mainly funded by benefactors, sponsors and a charity organization.
